So lately I have debating with my mother over medication. My mother argues that medicines for ADD/ADHD such a riatlin, concerta, adderall, should be given to anyone with ADD/ADHD. This is not only a belief by my mother but many doctors are notorious for prescribing these scheledule 2 amphetamines to anyone who merely complains of ADD/ADHD symptoms. I myself take concerta and ritalin and was started on the medication entering high school in 9th grade. The medicine is a miracle drug. However, with ever up there is a down and this medication does not lack in negative effects. While taking the medication i have noticed some major negative effects. The first is the a feeling of depression. Especially a lack of desire to start converstation with others. Which is very frustrating to me because I am a very social person. The medication also suppresses appetite and when taking the medication daily can cause severe weight loss. As some of you know any sort of weight loss could be devestating for someone of my size haha. However worse then any of these physical effects is the mental effect. Any time I want to do work I have to take a pill now. I have been introduced to a miracle drug. Got work to do....take a pill. I am by no means addicticed to this medication however I am addicted to how easy it makes getting school work done. The medication keeps you wide awake and makes late night studying a breeze. But for me, i dont want to have to take a pill for my ENTIRE life. The medication does not heal a physical defect that would cure ADD/ADHD, infact research continues on the cause of ADD/ADHD, maybe a chemical imbalance.. i don't know, but my point is that the medication does not solve any problems(ADD/ADHD) in the long run, it is simply a quick remedy to cure a disorder we really know nothing about. I would not recommend any parent putting their child on this medication.

This is my blog for today, i just feel that this is an important message that needs to be heard.
